Design and implementation of an IT PMO for leading energy company

Company: Suburban Propane

 

As a leading energy provider, Suburban Propane (SP) wanted to stay ahead of the curve when it came to leading practices within Information Technology.  With that in mind, SP engaged Pyramus Consulting to assist them in the design and implementation of a robust program management office (PMO) within the Information Services (IS) organization.

First, Pyramus Consulting conducted a thorough yet expeditious discovery which helped SP identify which project management processes where most critical in the development of the PMO.

The discovery as well as an existing systems development lifecycle (SDLC) was fully leveraged in the development of the PMO.  As the Pyramus Consulting Method dictates, the approach taken in the design was extremely collaborative.  Key SP stakeholders participated in faciliated working sessions where workflows and frameworks were developed for the project management processes that were in scope, which included:

Risk Management

Scope Change Control

The PMO was supported by Planview PPM software.  Pyramus Consulting worked directly with Planview to ensure that the software was appropriately configured to support the new processes and that SP users were adequately trained on both the use of the technology as well as the processes.
